It was on 14 August 1974 that the Tornado MRCA prototype P.01 D9591 made its first flight on the Manching test base in Germany. The Tornado, designed and used by Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, will also be exported to Saudi Arabia.
Forty years and a month after its first flight on September 14, 2014, the ceremonies organized for these four decades of the first military aircraft of European design took place on the same Manching base.
For the event, the Tornado 44+61 received a similar scheme as the first prototype that had preceded it 40 years earlier. During the flight demonstrations, a Tornado from the Royal Air Force (United Kingdom), and Aeronautica Militare (Italy), joined the German 44+61, taking several formation passes.
